MANILA — Moderate to heavy traffic was observed on Monday morning along EDSA-Cubao, as motorists headed back to Metro Manila after the Undas break.

Commuters from various provinces also arrived in different bus terminals in Cubao early in the morning.

Carlita Rafael, who came back from a 5-day trip to Mercedes, Camarines Norte, booked an overnight trip back to the Metro with her grandson.

She brought back with her sacks of rice and bananas from her hometown, which she said was slowly recovering from the onslaught of typhoon Kristine.

Norman Mercilla, a bus dispatcher in one of the terminals in Cubao, said there was an influx of passengers on Sunday night, with over 50 buses coming back to Manila from Bicol.

He said most of the air-conditioned buses from Bicol to Manila were already fully booked, but they would deploy an additional 4 buses to cater to walk-in passengers.

While others are going back to Manila for work, Genesis Rabit, a resident of Ilocos Sur, visited the capital region for a  4-day vacation with her cousins.

She said that they wanted to go to Manila during the Undas break but all trips were fully booked and they only secured bus tickets on Sunday evening.

Balak na nga namin magbackout kagabi kasi wala talagang masakyan," she said.

Meanwhile, as of 7:30 a.m., traffic was light in most parts of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) except in the NLEx-Valenzuela area.
