PARAÑAQUE – Authorities expect the bulk of travelers returning home from the long "Undas" weekend on Monday, November 4 as work and classes are set to resume.

In an interview on Teleradyo Serbisyo, Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) Corporate Affairs Officer Kolyn Calbasa said they are ready for the influx of travelers.

"Ang expectation today hindi ganun kataas. Tomorrow po yan magsurge given na iba tayong commuters na galing sa CALABARZON area ay magsisibalik sa Metro Manila. So inexpect natin tomorrow magpepeak around 160-170 thousand," she said.

Some Filipinos began returning home on Sunday, arriving in small batches at the PITX.

The travelers that arrived are from Bicol region, Batangas, Baguio and provinces from Visayas and Mindanao.

Among the early returnees is MJ Torres Hinayon, who works as a nanny in Quezon City.

She went to San Pablo, Laguna over the weekend to visit her departed loved ones and bond with her family.

Hinayon said she left early Sunday morning to be able to return in time for her work.

"Nahirapan po sobrang traffic po sa Laguna. Inabutan na po ako ng lunchtime… Inagahan ko nalang po para maiwasan yung aberya," she told ABS-CBN News.

Brothers John Alphonsus and John Jeremy Solomon also made it a point to go back to Metro Manila early, after spending their long weekend in Urbiztondo.

John Alphonsus is in his second year of college, while John Jeremy is in sixth grade.

"Kailangan po kasi namin pumasok bukas Lunes na rin po bukas. May hinahabol din akong org works at assignments," John Alphonsus said.

"Mahirap din kasing umuwi ng late kaya medyo inagahan namin," he added.

While some are going back to Metro Manila, others are heading to the provinces.

After spending Undas with his family in Imus, Cavite, Rogelio Rin is ready to go back to Camarines, Norte.

Rin said he was supposed to return to Capalonga earlier, but there were no trips available.

"Hirap po [umuwi]. Nagpa-reservation kami noon pang 27. Gawa po kasi ng bagyo kaya medyo ano binaha sa amin," he said.

Rin said he made sure to go to PITX early to avoid being late and end up missing another day of work.

"Alas siete aalis yung bus eh kung maiwanan ako, kinabukasan nanaman," he added.

Emiler Glee is traveling back to Bulan, Sorsogon this Sunday, after attending her son's wedding in Imus, Cavite last week.

She said she wanted to go home on October 31 in time for Undas, but decided to postpone her return due to Super Typhoon Leon.

"Pinalipas namin yung ano balita na may bagyo na Leon. Siniguro namin na para makauwi kami ng safe sa Bulan, hinintay namin na umalis siya," Glee shared.

When they heard about the upcoming storm, she said they did not want to experience what they went through during Severe Tropical Storm Carina again.

"Nung pumunta kami dito, baha doon sa dinaanan namin. Nastranded kami ng 11 hours doon sa parte ng Naga, sa Maharlika [Highway] ma'am… Talagang gusto namin makapunta dahil kasal ng anak ko," Glee said.

Even bus dispatchers noted there were fewer passengers traveling to and from Manila and Bicol compared to previous years, possibly due to the storm.

"Nagmomonitor kami yung galing Bicol. May laman din pero halos kalahati lang nasa mga 20. Dati po fully booked yan nasa 55, 56 pasahero… Sa bagyo po kasi. Natakot yung iba. May nagrefund," Adel Alaon said.

As of 7 pm, PITX management says it has recorded 153,345 foot traffic.

This figure is higher than the 130,000 to 140,000 expected foot traffic for Sunday.

PITX recorded 944,503 passengers from October 28 to November 2, 2024.

A total of 96 prohibited items were confiscated from passengers from November 1 to 2, mostly lighters and butane. PITX reminds travelers to avoid bringing banned items and to regularly check with bus companies for updates on trips.
