Operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) posed as clients in a resort in Tondo, Manila.

Around 23 women and teenagers were brought to the area from Pampanga, Pasig, Marikina and other cities, until they were rescued by the NBI.

According to 18-year-old Meanne, she could not resist the offer of her friend, a pimp, that she will receive P10,000 in exchange for sex work.

She was hoping that she could use the money to support her father who is a PWD.

“Lahat kami rito ay hindi ginusto ito, nakakababa ng pagkatao,” she said.

The 24-year old alleged pimp “Marlene” admitted to the crime.

She said an accomplice asked her to look for girls, and brought them to the resort.

She added that she used to be a sex worker and this is her first time to be a pimp.

“Sa hirap po ng buhay, tumutulong ako sa pamilya ko. pero di nila alam ang ginagawa ko," she said.

The NBI reminded parents to monitor their children.

Most of the victims did not inform their parents that they were being offered to foreigners for sex.

NBI agent Atty. Jerome Hernandez said they are also investigating if the sex workers' clients are POGO workers.

“Normally ang mga client nila is mga banyaga, Chinese and other nationalities... Tinitignan namin ang anggulo na yun kung involved sila sa mga POGO. But normally Chinese, Koreans and other foreign nationals," he said.

NBI spokesperson Ferdinand Lavin said they were wondering why the resort freely allowed the suspects and victims to enter their establishment, especially since 11 of the victims are minors.

“We are also looking at the possibility of filing a case against the owner of the resort. Itong resort ginamit, inipon ang mga babae, if evidence warrants then we will proceed with the filing of violation of the money laundering act," said Lavin.

The victims will be brought to the DSWD, including one suspect who is also a minor. The two legally aged suspects were jailed and charged with human trafficking.
