MANILA -- Vice President Sara Duterte made a surprise appearance on Wednesday at the House of Representatives quad-committee hearing on the Duterte administration's drug war.

The vice president was not invited to the hearing and also declined to answer questions from the press, heading straight to the hearing room.

Former chief presidential counsel Salvador Panelo declined to answer why the younger Duterte attended the hearing, but said she might want to show support for her father.

Meanwhile, former senator and staunch Duterte critic Antonio Trillanes IV also arrived at the hearing.

He was invited as resource person and took his oath afterwards. He has yet to speak as of writing.
