MANILA — Former President Rodrigo Duterte sat beside former senator Leila de Lima at the resumption of the House quad committee hearing into extrajudicial killings and his bloody war on drugs on Wednesday.

De Lima is one of the fiercest critics of Duterte and his policies. She was detained for almost seven years under his administration, during which she and human rights groups alleged that fabricated charges were used to silence her.

Courts later cleared De Lima of all drug charges.

Duterte and De Lima first attended a Senate hearing on his administration's war on drugs on October 28 where they were just one seat apart.

But this is the first time they will attend the House quad comm hearing together.

During the hearing, De Lima said the drug allegations against her were "fictitious and bogus."

I was cleared of all three drug cases.

The House quad committee pushed through with its hearing Wednesday after Duterte's former spokesperson Salvador Panelo said he would confront lawmakers for initially postponing the proceedings.

In his opening remarks, the mega panel's lead chairperson Rep. Ace Barbers denied accusations that some resource persons were forced to testify falsehoods at the congressional investigation.

During a House quad comm hearing, former Davao police officer Royina Garma claimed Duterte sanctioned a "reward system" for deaths in the drug war. Duterte's former aides denied the allegations.
