MANILA (UPDATED) -- The House quad-committee hearing on Wednesday (November 13) descended into chaos and had to be suspended briefly after former president Rodrigo Duterte lost his temper at his fierce critic, former senator Antonio Trillanes IV, who, citing bank accounts, alleged the Duterte family benefited from drug money.

The former president said he is willing to sign a bank waiver to belie Trillanes' claim -- but he asked if he could do it in exchange for slapping the former senator.

"Will it be okay if we draft the waiver now, that it be signed today instead of tomorrow? Will you be fine with that, Mr. President?" House Deputy Speaker Rep. David Suarez asked Duterte.

In response, Duterte said: "Anong kapalit, sir? Sampalin ko siya [Trillanes] sa publiko? Ngayon na!"

"Wala pong ganoon," said Suarez.

Duterte then grabbed the mic and gestured that he would throw it at Trillanes' direction.

"Please observe proper decorum. We are in a committee hearing," Suarez told Duterte, who later apologized for his behavior.

Earlier in the hearing, Duterte had gestured his fist at another one of his critics, former senator Leila de Lima, who was seated beside him. -- from a report by Vivienne Gulla, ABS-CBN News
