MANILA (UPDATED) — TV host Willie Revillame has filed a certificate of candidacy for senator in the 2025 midterm elections.

Revillame arrived Tuesday afternoon at the Manila Hotel, ending weeks of speculations about his intentions to run for public office.

What prompted him to run, he said, was the saddening sight of senators displaying their personal conflicts before the public eye.

“Nakikita ko awayan ng awayan, mga edukado... hindi ako abogado, hindi ako nakatapos... pero marami nang batas ang ginawa, marami nang naging president. Pero ano ba ang nagawa, nabago ba buhay ba natin,” Revillame said.

Should he win a Senate seat, Revillame vowed to create laws that will increase the mandatory discount for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. He also promised to provide free education.

He will run as an independent candidate.

Revillame served as noontime host of "Wowowee" one of the longest-running noontime shows in the Philippines, as well as other variety and game shows, and has long been hinting on plans to run for public office.
