MANILA, Philippines - Vice Gov. Athena Bryana Delgado Tolentino is now the governor of Cavite province following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s appointment of Gov. Jovic Remulla as the new secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Tolentino assumed the mantle of the provincial Capitol after she took her oath as governor of Cavite in Tagaytay City on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

She won the vice gubernatorial race in the 2022 elections and assumed the second highest elective position in Cavite province on June 30, 2022, after serving as city councilor of Tagaytay City from 2019 to 2022.

At 26, the newly installed governor of Cavite is one of the youngest public servants in the country.

Born June 11, 1998, she is the daughter of Tagaytay Mayor and Philippine Olympic Committee chairman Abraham Tolentino and the niece of Senate Majority Leader Francis ‘Tol’ Tolentino.

She was the first female vice governor and the first female governor of the Cavite province.

The younger Tolentino said she will continue the programs and projects of the previous governor, who now heads the DILG.
