MANILA Amidst the increasing number of traditional candidates and reelectionists, a youth leader is seeking to be part of the city council of Las Piñas, the bailiwick of the Villar and Aguilar clans.

Jinsei Castillo, the chairperson of Kabataan Partylist - Las Piñas, filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for councilor for the city's District 1 on Tuesday morning.

She said she will bring "true leadership" in multisectoral fights.

"Finally entering Las Piñas' dragons den in politics, the home of well-known political evils and dynasties, where the Villar-Aguilar resides. As Makabayan's brave knight, it's my sworn duty to slay the beasts and bring forth true leadership carrying multisectoral fights," she wrote on X.

On its Facebook page, Kabataan Partylist - Las Piñas said Castillo "is fighting for the rights to free and quality education, budget increases for the education sector, minimum wage increases, and the end of contractualization."

Kabataan is part of the Makabayan coalition, which is also fielding party-lists and an 11-person Senate slate of representatives of marginalized sectors.

The filing of certificates of candidacy, which started on October 1 and ended on Tuesday afternoon, has revived discussions on political dynasties as relatives of incumbent officials announced their election bids.

"Family kami, but it has been done [by] my father since 1963. Pinamana niya sa amin na mahalin ang Las Piñas (He passed on to us the love for Las Piñas). And, I thought, it's the memory of my father who really loved Las Piñas when he was alive," Sen. Cynthia Villar, clan matriarch and candidate Las Piñas district reprsentative said Monday as she filed her COC.

Villar's daughter Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar is running for senator in the 2025 polls, potentially the fourth from the family to be elected to the Senate.

Rep. Villar's brother Mark is a sitting senator while their father Manny is a former Senate president and is president of the Nacionalista Party.
