MANILA -- Luis “Chavit” Singson, the former governor of Ilocos Sur, announced his intention to file his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for the Senate on Monday, October 7, 2024, during a forum in Quezon City on Sunday.

He emphasized his commitment to addressing key issues in the transport sector, including modernization and digitalization.

Singson declared, “Bukas na ho ako kakandidato,” underscoring his commitment to helping the public through innovative initiatives. He elaborated on his passion for improving the transport system, recalling his past efforts to support the sector during the previous administration’s reign.

“Pero itong transport group, noong panahon pa ni President [Rodrigo] Duterte, gusto ko nang tumulong,“ he stated, citing various initiatives he has already undertaken to help improve public transportation.

“Bago ako nag decide na tatakbong senador, ginagawa ko na ‘tong pagtulong. Marami na akong natulungan,” he added, asserting that he has already begun implementing initiatives on his own.

Singson expressed his confidence in his readiness for leadership roles, particularly in transportation, which he identified as a key priority.

“Willing ako (be given the committee chairmanship role for transportation) dahil ‘yan ang priority ko– One of my priorities,” he said.

When questioned about his political alliances, Singson clarified that he will run as an independent candidate but is open to forming alliances with other political groups. He expressed his gratitude for any endorsements he may receive, stating, “Pag in-endorse ako, pasalamat. Pag hindi ako in-endorse, pasalamat parin.”

Singson, who served as mayor of Narvacan from 2019 to 2022, has been vocal about his Senate aspirations and is committed to executing his proposed projects for the public.

“Asahan po ninyo, hindi ako nangangako. Nasa gawa ang ginagawa ko at ginagawa ko na ang gagawin ko pa ulit [na] mas maganda. Sa mga sinabi ko, marami pa kong ibang magagandang proyekto.” Singson concluded.
