MANILA — Commitment to push for the approval of an anti-political dynasty law, more statutes to protect women, children and laborers, and intense guarding of how people’s money is being spent by government officials.

These are just some of the platforms underlined by the 11-man Makabayan Senate slate, who opened day 4 of the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) filing on Friday.

Makabayan's senatorial bets include the following:

• •Ronnel Arambulo of Pamalakaya

• •Jerome Adonis of Kilusang Mayo Uno
• •Rep Arlene Brosas of Gabriela
• •Rep France Castro of ACT Teachers
• •Amirah Lidasan of Sandugo Movement of Moro and Indigenous Peoples for Self-Determination

PROPOSED MEASURES

Andamo, a nurse by profession, underlined her commitment to push for a stronger national health budget that is enough to support the needs of every Filipino.

Andamo said political neophytes like her should be taken seriously by Filipino voters.

“Ako po ang dapat mapansin sapagkat ang karanasan na baon ko sa Senado ay yung sinseridad... Hindi ako naglilingkod sa tao para mapayaman ko ang sarili ko,” Andamo said.

A worker for many years, Adonis meanwhile vowed to work to increase the salary of laborers, abolish the Regional Wage Board, and push for a total ban on contractualization.

Fisherman Arambulo is looking at strengthening the fisherfolk amid the West Philippine Sea dispute.

In the same occasion, Brosas, who is currently Gabriela party-list representative, said she was looking at pushing for more women and children’s protection law when elected to the Senate.

Meantime veteran "street parliamentarian" and former Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño admitted their group’s uphill battle in securing a seat in the Senate.

Their biggest challenge, he said, is the presence of political dynasties and influential personalities in the Senate race.

Casiño has vowed to push for the passage of an Anti-Political Dynasty enabling law.

Castro assured Filipino voters that she would guard people’s money if elected to the Senate.
