<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib fr-fil"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/173008175428320241027-kristine-aftermath-agoncillo-MD-20.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dib fr-fil"/><span class="fr-inner" spellcheck="false" style="text-align:left">Mud and debris cover the Agoncillo-Laurel Road in a section of Barangay Subic Ilaya, Agoncillo, Batangas due to landslides during Severe Tropical Stom Kristine. <em id="isPasted">Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News</em><br/></span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA <strong>(UPDATED)</strong> — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday morning said it had received 116 reported deaths, 109 injuries, and 39 missing people due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.</p><p>The death toll from the storm <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/10/27/death-toll-from-kristine-rises-to-110-2116">reached 110 on Sunday</a>, with Office of Civil Defense spokesperson Edgar Posadas saying a &quot;higher death toll is possible in the coming days since rescuers can now reach previously isolated places.&quot;</p><p>Tropical Storm Kristine struck the Philippines last week, causing massive flooding, landslides, and destruction along its path, affecting more than half a million families.</p><p>A total of 160 cities and towns have declared a state of calamity to access additional disaster funds and freeze the prices of basic goods.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/regions/2024/10/27/leon-decelerates-signal-no-1-in-parts-of-luzon-557" id="isPasted">Leon decelerates, Signal No 1 in parts of Luzon</a><span></span><span></span><span></span><span></span><span></span><br/></div><div><span></span><span></span><span></span><span></span><span></span><span>Government and private entities at the height of the storm&#x27;s onslaught rushed to rescue trapped villagers and provide aid to thousands of residents in evacuation shelters.</span></div><p>In Bicol, one of the hardest-hit provinces that received record-breaking rainfall, 41 deaths were recorded, mostly due to drowning, regional police director Andre Dizon told AFP news agency on Sunday.</p><p>Dizon added that they were still receiving rescue calls on Sunday, as many residents across Camarines Sur remained trapped on roofs and the upper floors of their homes. President Ferdinand Marcos vowed Sunday that help was underway for the residents of Camarines Sur.</p><p>In Batangas, the death toll rose to 60, with most attributed to rain-induced landslides, provincial police chief Jacinto Malinao said.</p><p>Almost a million people were displaced by storm Kristine, the NDRRMC said. The cyclone damaged 44,000 houses and 990 infrastructure facilities across the country, with the total estimated cost of damage at P1.545 billion.
