Cavite has been placed under a state of calamity Thursday, with 11 out of 23 towns and cities affected by flash floods brought by severe tropical storm Kristine.

Cavite Gov. Athena Tolentino said a total of 2,532 families or 8,913 individuals have been affected by severe flooding, with the town of Noveleta conducting forced evacuation.

Asked if big-time reclamation projects are partly responsible for the floods, she said: “Mahirap siyang sagutin ngayon but we will look into it and we will get back to you.”

The Philippine Reclamation Authority earlier said the 90-hectare reclamation project in Bacoor, Cavite will resume this year.

The governor said 18 cities and towns in Cavite are also without power while another 6 have no water.

“Some evacuation centers have genset batteries that are enough to charge mobile devices,” Tolentino said.

Classes on all levels and government work in the province remain suspended Friday.

More than 3.3 million Filipinos have been affected by the onslaught of severe tropical storm Kristine all over the country, with thousands still reeling from the effects of the storm, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said Friday.
