MANILA (UPDATE) — Some local government units (LGUs) have decided to suspend classes on Wednesday, October 23, due to tropical storm Kristine.

Classes at all levels in the following areas have been suspended:

Luzon (including work in government offices)

Aklan

- Kalibo (public and private)

- Lezo (public and private)

- New Washington (public and private)

Cotabato

- Pikit

Cebu City (public and private)

General Santos City (public and private)

Negros Occidental

- Bago (public and private)

- Candoni (public and private)

- Himamaylan (public and private; face-to-face classes only)

- Moises Padilla (public and private)

- Talisay

- Victorias (public and private)

Samar

Classes in elementary and high school in the following areas are also suspended:

Antique

- Libertad (public and private; face-to-face classes only)

Face-to-face classes in Lapu-Lapu City are likewise suspended.

In its 11 p.m. advisory Tuesday, PAGASA said the center of the storm was last seen 345 km east northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte, moving northwestward at 10 km per hour.

"Kristine" sustained its winds of 75 km per hour near the center with a gustiness of up to 90 km per hour.

Signal No. 2 is currently hoisted over Cagayan Valley region, Bicol region, parts of Northern Samar and Eastern Samar, while Signal No. 1 is raised over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, central Luzon, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, parts of eastern and western Visayas, Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte.

Kristine is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Friday.
