George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News/FileMANILA -- Philippine authorities have seized a total of P49.82-billion worth of illegal drugs under the Marcos administration's anti-drug campaign, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency reported Monday.

PDEA Chief Information Officer Director Derrick Carreon says that as of the start of the Marcos administration on July 1, 2022 to September 30, 2024, PDEA has seized 6,481.16 kilograms of shabu, 75.69 kilograms of cocaine, 115,081 pieces of ecstasy and 5,626.80 kilograms of marijuana in 84,676 anti-drug operations conducted nationwide.

Meanwhile, authorities have arrested a total of 114,892 drug personalities, of which 7,364 are considered high value targets.

"We would like to think that there's a steady increase in the total volume and value of drugs confiscated," Carreon said.

"But as regards to the barangay drug clearing program effort, definitely, malaki na ang improvement natin," he added. "As of today, we only have a total of 6,292 barangays that are regarded as drug-affected."

"So this represents a very good number compared to the total number of barangays nationwide and the total number of barangays being 29,211," he added. "Ibig sabihin nito, yung sinimulan nating pigura back then na napakaraming drug affected barangays ay tuloy-tuloy pa rin po ang pagbaba."

"So this is a good yardstick to determine the success of the national anti-drug program."

In April, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. highlighted his administration's "bloodless approach" to the war on drugs after 1.8 tons of shabu were confiscated in the town of Alitagtag in Batangas.

"I'd also to point out that this is the biggest shipment of shabu na nahuli natin, but, not one person died. Walang namatay. Walang nagputukan, walang nasaktan. Basta't inoperate natin nang dahan-dahan," the president said at the time.

"Yan naman dapat ang approach, para sa akin, yan ang dapat na approach sa drug war, na ang pinakaimportante is matigil natin ang pag-ship ng mga drugs dito sa pagpasok sa Pilipinas," he added.

[For me, that should be the approach to the drug war, the most important of which is to stop the shipping of drugs here.]

Marcos Jr. has previously said that the administration's anti-illegal drugs campaign has been transformed from the bloody drug war of his predecessor Rodrigo Duterte to a more preventive and rehabilitative approach.
