MANILA – Eight more overseas Filipino workers from Lebanon returned to the Philippines on Sunday afternoon.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said the OFW returnees arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1.

The recent batch brings the total number of repatriated OFWs to 450 and dependents to 28 since October 2023. During this time, the Philippines raised Alert Level 3 in Lebanon, paving the way for voluntary repatriation.

Amid worsening conflict between Israel and Iran-backed group Hezbollah, the Philippine government continues to urge Filipinos to avail of repatriation.

The Presidential Communications Office on Saturday said 37 more OFWs will be arriving from Istanbul, Turkiye on Monday evening.

According to the DMW, at least 571 Filipinos have sought voluntary repatriation.

A total of 178 are currently staying in three government shelters in the capital of Beirut.

The DMW said there are an estimated 11,000 Filipinos residing in Lebanon.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the evacuation of Filipinos in Lebanon "by all means necessary" but did not call for mandatory repatriation.
