MANILA - The Supreme Court has affirmed the murder conviction of Jason Ivler, who was charged for the death of 27-year Renato Ebarle.

In the 2-page resolution dated November 11, 2019, the SC's Second Division dismissed Ivler's appeal "for failure to sufficiently show that the Court of Appeals committed any reversible error in the assailed decision as to warrant the exercise of the Court's appellate jurisdiction."

The SC “affirms with modification” the CA decision that found Ivler guilty beyond reasonable doubt of the crime of murder and sentencing him to reclusion perpetua.

The resolution was signed by Deputy Division Clerk of Court Teresita Aquino Tuazon on Nov. 26, 2019.

Ivler, nephew of singer Freddie Aguilar, shot Ebarle during a traffic argument in Santolan, Quezon City on November 18, 2009. Ebarle succumbed to 3 gunshot wounds.

Ivler, an aspiring rapper, did not surrender to authorities and was captured at his family's residence.

The high court also ordered Ivler to pay Ebarle's heirs close to P10 million in indemnity, damages, and compensation for loss of earning capacity.
