MANILA - The Cayetanos are building a "super dynasty" with 4 of its members running for local and national government positions in next year's elections, according to the lawyer for a petition against the family.

"We are calling this not just a plain political dynasty but actually a super dynasty. We're not only looking at generational continuity in one position, but we're actually looking at territorial expansion," lawyer Emilio Marañon III told ANC Early Edition.

Marañon represents Leonides Buac Jr., who asked the Comelec to block the congressional bids of former Foreign Affairs Sec Alan Peter Cayetano and outgoing Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano. Husband and wife are running for congress in 2 separate districts in the city.

The Cayetano couple earlier said the disqualification case against them was "irrelevant to our constituents' desire."

With the Cayetano case, the Comelec has "golden opportunity" to set a precedent and apply the Constitution's anti-dynasty provision, which was defined in the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act, Marañon

"The situation of the Cayetanos in running in all of these positions, is precisely the very evil the Constitution seeks to prevent and we have the opportunity now to raise this," he said.

"'Yung ginawa ng mga Cayetano, in a way, to use the Tagalog word for it, medyo garapal (a bit brazen). When you read all the comments nung pumutok 'to sa social media, they've been consistent in using the word greed. Talagang garapalan (it's really brazen)," he said.

The Cayetano couple's claim that they live in 2 different residences goes against the Family Code provision on "matrimonial domicile," he said.

"Lani has been a long term voter of Barangay Bagumbayan which is in the first district. Then all of a sudden na-surprise ang lahat nung nag-file ng COC, sa second district," he said.

The eldest of the Cayetanos, Taguig Rep. Pia Cayetano is seeking a comeback in the Senate while their youngest, Lino, is running for mayor to replace his sister-in-law.

Based on their certificates of candidacy, the Two Serendra condominium unit Lani claims to be her residence, is also the unit used by Lino in previous elections, Marañon said.

The same condominium unit was listed by Pia as her residence, based on her COC, Marañon said.

"This is basically very obvious na this is a political ploy. This is a domicile of convenience because they want to get as many seats as they can sa House of Representatives," he said.
