MANILA (UPDATED) — Thousands of travelers on Tuesday flocked to ports early on the eve of this year's Undas or All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

The travelers are expected to visit their departed in cemeteries or take a holiday vacation.

Based on PCG's monitoring from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday, there were some 25,243 outbound passengers and 22,226 inbound passengers in all ports nationwide.

It added that thousands of PCG personnel have so far inspected 258 vessels and 202 motorbancas.

The PCG said heightened alert in its districts, stations, and sub-stations will last until November 6 "to manage the influx of port passengers."

For inquiries regarding sea travel protocols and regulations during Undas 2023, the public can coordinate with the PCG through its official Facebook page or the Coast Guard Public Affairs (0927-560-7729).

BATANGAS PORT

There is no overcrowding of passengers in Batangas Port, as of Tuesday. Only around 1,200 travelers have passed through Batangas Port, heading to Mindoro and Romblon.

There are almost no passenger queues in the ticketing booths of shipping lines. The 3,000-seat departure area is also mostly vacant.

According to the port management, there have been very few passengers arriving at the Batangas port since Monday. One possible reason is that many have already returned to their provinces for the barangay polls.

From Friday last week until Sunday, around 50,000 passengers passed through the Batangas port.

The port management is now preparing for the influx of returning passengers which may begin Wednesday night. Because of this, the port remains on alert, with port security and coast guard personnel deployed.

In Oriental Mindoro, the management of Calapan port is also on alert, expecting an influx of passengers returning to work in Batangas and Metro Manila.

Starting 6 a.m. on November 2, the Calapan port will implement a "no booking, first come, first served" basis for rolling cargoes or vehicles heading to Batangas.
