MANILA - Former Philippine National Police Chief, Director General Ronald Dela Rosa said he was clueless when it comes to inflation, but was ready to show his expertise in law enforcement should he win a Senate seat.

Dela Rosa filed his certificate of candidacy for senator before noon Friday, an auspicious time recommended by a Feng Shui expert.

Asked about how he will address inflation, Dela Rosa said: "Sa totoo lang, di ako masyadong magaling dun. Hindi naman ako negosyante, law enforcer ako."

(That's not my expertise. I am not a businessman, I am a law enforcer.)

Should he win and be tasked to tackle inflation and other business-related bills, Dela Rosa said he would seek help from experts.

”E di mag-hire ka ng mga researchers. Yung magagaling diyan para hindi ka magmukhang tanga,” he said.

(Let's hire researchers. Experts will do it so I won't look like a fool.]

“Sa ngayon talaga sabihin ko sa inyo, tanga ako diyan,” he said.

[For now, I'm telling you, I'm really clueless.)

The lack of economic know-how can be compensated by his expertise in anti-crime and law and order, but the public should avoid typecasting lawmakers, the former chief PNP said.

“Hindi one-man team ang Senado,” he said.

“Kung sino ang gusto iboto ng taong bayan, yun ang magiging senador, hindi natin puwede ilimit to a certain class,” he said.

Among his priority measures would be reinstating the death penalty for heinous crimes including rape and murder.

Dela Rosa led the government’s war on drugs when President Rodrigo Duterte rose to power in 2016.

The campaign was marred by alleged extrajudicial killings perpetrated by the police but Dela Rosa said he would be willing to probe the unlawful killings should he become a senator.
