MANILA - Two Philippine eagles received a warm welcome in Singapore after they arrived in the country as part of a breeding loan agreement to increase the eagles' population.

The two eagles, a 15-year-old male named Geothermica and a 17-year-old female named Sambisig, are now housed at Jurong Bird Park, which is managed by the Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS).

In a Facebook video post Thursday, WRS said it was the first time a Philippine eagle was sent to a foreign country as part of a recovery plan.

"It is an absolute honor for us to be entrusted with this pair of eagles," WRS said.

"[The Philippine eagles] have finally arrived at their new home!" it said.

The video showed the eagles were taken carefully out of their carriers, which housed them during their flight, and underwent health procedures.

WRS said Sambisig weighed at 6.4 kilograms while Geothermica weighed 5 kilograms.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources approved this year a plan to loan Philippine eagles to other countries for breeding and conservation.

This measure aims to protect Philippine eagles from bird flu and the effects of natural calamities.
