MANILA - The head executive assistant (HEA) of Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon, who was scolded by House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas during a congressional hearing on Wednesday, believes it was done on purpose after her past conflict with House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.

According to Atty. Mandy Anderson, Faeldon's HEA, she was asked by Alvarez, through his staff, to process the promotion of an employee at BOC.

"Nagsimula 'yan nung may hiningi siya promotion ng taga-BOC. Ako 'yung parang naging middleman, nakikipag-communicate sa staff niya. So nung hiningi niya 'yung promotion na 'yun, siyempre chinecheck ko kung qualified ba na ma-promote. Eh ang nangyari, hindi qualified," she told DZMM.

Speaker Alvarez then called her to his office and scolded her, she said.

"Nangulit pa po, ipinatawag ako sa opisina niya, pinagalitan ako. This was sometime after May," Anderson said.

Anderson added, Alvarez called Faeldon and asked him about the employee's promotion but the latter also refused based on the employee's lack of qualification.

After being scolded during Wednesday's congressional hearing, Anderson believes it was because she rejected Alvarez' request.

"I am no one. Kaya I do not understand why I am given too much importance in a congressional hearing," she said.

'IMBECILE SPEAKER'

On June 16, Anderson posted on her personal Facebook page an article about Alvarez' threat to dissolve the Court of Appeals over their release order for the six Ilocos Norte provincial officials who were detained by the Lower House.

In her caption, he called the lawmaker an "imbecile" for even thinking of doing so.

In the DZMM interview Wednesday, Anderson said she found it weird that her Facebook post reached Fariñas when she posted it privately.

"'Yung Facebook post ko na 'yan is very private. Actually, I have a separate account for public posts," Anderson said.

"Mali din na na-post ko 'yun in a medyo public forum, pero at the same time, medyo private naman 'yung Facebook ko so I was purposely being watched," she added.

Despite what happened, Anderson said she will stay as Faeldon's chief of staff.

"I will stay as chief of staff as long as he will have me," she said.

Fariñas raised the issue during a hearing of the House Ways and Means Committee which involved the Bureau of Customs.

"This [FB post] was sent to me by a lot of members, they were taken aback. I couldn't believe it myself that a government official would do it," he said.
