MANILA - The wife of Senator Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara, Elvira also known as "Tootsy" said Friday she "grieves" for the workers of ABS-CBN who lost their jobs after the House of Representatives denied its franchise bid.

Angara posted the message on her Instagram account Friday, which also happened to be her 24th year anniversary working for the company.

"My heart grieves.. my heart is angry...," Angara said.

"Why do you choose to inflict pain on people whose simple joys were just to see their kids grow up to have better lives than themselves.. people who worked tirelessly to be able to build a home and provide for their families. So devastating.. so many grieving hearts and broken dreams.. so many tears..," she added.

Angara is a sales cluster head for ABS-CBN Corp.

"This is not over, I swear to each and every one of you.. it’s not over!," Angara said.

ABS-CBN earlier announced that it would have to lay off employees in August after the House of Representatives denied its fresh 25-year franchise application.

Veteran journalist Ces Drilon earlier said she was one of the many employees affected by the retrenchment program. Several ABS-CBN units have also announced ceasing operations, including its sports arm.
