MANILA (UPDATED) — Former Vice President Leni Robredo on Friday launched the Angat Buhay foundation, a non-government organization which she earlier said aimed to be the largest volunteer network in the Philippines.
"Today, we begin a new chapter. Excited for all the good work we will do in #AngatBuhay. Maraming salamat sa mga patuloy na nakikiisa!" Robredo said in a tweet.

Robredo will sit as chairperson of the Angat Buhay NGO as she continues the programs started by her office when she was vice president.

At the launch, Robredo revealed that the application for Angat Buhay was initially rejected because an old group registered with the government had the same name.
It eventually received approval after changing its corporate name to Angat Pinas Inc., but she said its program would still be called Angat Buhay.
The organization was launched through a street art festival at what used to be the volunteer headquarters in Quezon City of Robredo and her running-mate, former senator Francis Pangilinan. Her ex-campaign manager, former Sen. Bam Aquino, was also at the event.
FOCUS OF ANGAT BUHAY
Months after she assumed the vice presidency in 2016, Robredo launched an anti-poverty program called Angat Buhay. It catered to Filipino families in far-flung areas by providing assistance during disasters, as well as housing and resettlement.
The Angat Buhay foundation's will be similar to those of the Office of the Vice President under her tenure, but with a focus on 4 key areas: food security and nutrition, education, disaster relief and rehabilitation, and community engagement, said Robredo.
She said the foundation would help its local chapters initiate various programs on their own — a reflection of her campaign platform to inspire participatory governance.
Angat Buhay foundation will initially source its funds from the money that would be raised from selling nearly a thousand artworks she received during the campaign.
Robredo also bared that the planned museum she earlier announced to house the remaining artworks is now ready and will be called Museo ng Pag-asa (Museum of Hope).
Days after her loss to President Ferdinand Marcos in the May elections, Robredo announced that she would establish Angat Buhay as she wanted to continue the wave of volunteerism that fueled her campaign.
The Marcos camp earlier said that it was everyone's right to organize.
