MANILA - Water level in Angat Dam, one of Metro Manila's main water sources, is expected to drop below the critical mark if rains do not replenish the reservoir this week, an official said Tuesday.

The water level remains "a little above" the 160-meter critical mark despite rains last week, Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) Administrator Reynaldo Velasco told DZMM's Failon Ngayon.

"Projected na namin na kung hindi uulan by June 20, ang level natin would be 160," he said.

"Kung hindi tutuloy yung projection ng PAGASA, we would reach 154 by end of June," he said.

Water concessionaires may have to resort to rationing in some areas, but authorities are finding ways to have a service interruption schedule instead of asking residents to queue for water, Velasco said.

Thousands of homes and businesses, including hospitals, were paralyzed in March after a water shortage struck parts of Metro Manila for several days.
