MANILA (2nd UPDATE) — The Philippines’ youngest survivor of the novel coronavirus has died, his father said Thursday.

Kobe Manjares, born on April 12, was diagnosed with COVID-19 when he was only 5 days old. He eventually recovered and was released from the National Children’s Hospital on April 28. However, his parents brought him back to the hospital in early May due to constipation.

The infant had blood infection and his stomach bloated persistently. His blood sugar level also fluctuated, his father, Ronnel Manjares, told ABS-CBN News.

"Nakausap ko 'yung doktor kagabi at sabi tutubuhan na siya. Pagkatapos, sinabi wala na," said Manjares, adding that his son died at around 1 a.m.

(I talked to the doctor last night and he said my son would be intubated. I was told later that he was gone.)

Ronnel, a construction worker, said he still needed to find a ride from Alabang to Quezon City to claim his son's body at the hospital. He said had no money for Baby Kobe's burial expenses.
