MANILA - The suspects in the stabbing incident involving former De La Salle University players are still in detention, Atty. Howard Calleja said Monday.

The suspects, Edmar Manalo Lacanlale and Willard Balisi, have signed a waiver of detention after they requested for a preliminary investigation on the incident.

"Ngayon, imbes na nasampahan, humingi 'yung kabilang partido ng preliminary investigation, meaning, during the investigation, gumawa sila ng waiver, kung hindi sila nasampahan ng kaso within 36 hours, dapat pakawalan sila," Calleja told DZMM.

According to Calleja, his clients Jeron Teng, Thomas Torres and Norbert Torres, welcomed the preliminary investigation since it can also help their case.

"Siguro depende sa mga salaysay at mga information na dumarating sa amin, sabi ko nga, maybe we are looking at upgrading the crime from frustrated homicide to hopefully, frustrated murder," he added.

The three basketball players were walking outside the Early Night Bar at the Bonifacio Global City when they got into a confrontation with 2 suspects at around 2:30 a.m.

The victims sustained stab wounds in different parts of their bodies.
