(2nd UPDATE) Thousands of supporters of outgoing Taguig Rep. Arnel Cerafica took to the streets Thursday, clogging the C5-McKinley intersection and causing heavy traffic.

According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), some 3,000 people are in the area.

TAKE ALTERNATE ROUTES

MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago advised motorists to take alternate routes.

"If you're coming from northbound, please take Bayani road. If you're coming from southbound, please take BGC paglabas natin Kalayaan. Kasi ’yung tail end ng traffic medyo mahaba-haba. Na-advise sa’tin ito 4:30 p.m, pero hanggang ngayon, parami pa nang parami ’yung mga supporters," she told DZMM Teleradyo.

As of posting time, Pialago said the traffic jam extended all the way to the South Luzon Expressway exit on the northbound side, and Julia Vargas Avenue on the southbound direction.

Cerafica ran against Lino Cayetano for the Taguig mayoralty.

Last week, the supporters of Cerafica and his brother, Allan Cerafica, protested the results of the elections.

Allan Cerafica took on former foreign affairs secretary Alan Peter Cayetano as representative of the city's 1st district.

In a Facebook post, Lino Cayetano slammed his opponent for urging his supporters to protest in the streets.

"Nine years na Congressman si Arnel Cerafica. Bago noon, naging konsehal ni Freddie Tinga. Alam dapat ng isang pinuno at lingkod bayan, lalo na ng isang mambabatas, ang tama at mali," he said.

"Imbes na turuan ng tama ang mga supporters niya, isinusubo pa sa kapahamakan. Hindi dapat nagra-rally ng ganitong oras ng gabi, na walang permit at sa gitna ng lansangan."

The mayor-elect urged supporters of Cerafica to go home and file an electoral protest.

"Sa mga kababayan ko nagra-rally sa lansangan, umuwi na po tayo, mag-file ng protesta kung yan ang paniniwala niyo," he said.

"Sa mga kababayan ko na naipit sa traffic, nasa jeep, auto, bus, naglalakad dahil walang masakyan, ako na po ang humihingi ng pasensiya, pati sa inyong mga pamilyang nag-aantay sa inyo."
