Pope Francis has chosen a priest from Zambales to lead the Diocese of San Fernando in La Union.

The Vatican announced on Wednesday that the pope has appointed Rev. Fr. Daniel Presto as the new bishop of San Fernando.

Presto is currently serving as the diocesan administrator of the Diocese of Iba in Zambales.

He will succeed the late Bishop Rodolfo Beltran, who headed the diocese for around four years until his death in 2017.

Since 2012, Presto has been parish priest of the Holy Infant parish of San Antonio, a member of the presbyteral council, and various diocesan commissions.

He was born in Mangaldan, Pangasinan on April 7, 1963.

After high school, he attended courses in philosophy and theology at San Carlos Seminary in Makati City, and obtained a master’s degree in education from the De La Salle University of Manila.

On December 1, 1990, Presto was ordained priest for the Diocese of Iba.
