CEBU (2nd UPDATE) - President Rodrigo Duterte expressed excitement and happiness after learning that his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, has given birth.

After gracing the groundbreaking ceremony of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway, the president expressed his desire to go home right away to see his newborn grandson, Stonefish, in Davao City.

"I'm really excited to go home... Tuloy ako sa ospital," he said during the induction of the newly elected officers and trustees of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) in Lapu-Lapu City Cebu.

The President even joked about his new grandson's nickname.

"Ang pangalan daw, Marko Digong. Ganyan talaga yan si Inday, ang palayaw daw Stonefish... Kaawa naman na bata," he said.

City Information Officer Jef Tupas said Thursday night that the baby's full name is Marko Digong D. Carpio.

Stonefish, Sara and husband Mans Carpio's third child, was born at 12:56 p.m. Duterte was pregnant with triplets but lost two to miscarriage.

"Thank you, Lord, for the gift of life," Mayor Duterte’s husband Mans Carpio said.

"Mayor Inday Sara is stable and generally fine," he added.

Malacañang, in a statement, said President Duterte is delighted with the birth of Stonefish.

"The President is delighted with the arrival of his newest apo, and he is glad that both Mayor Inday Sara and Stonefish are healthy and stable," Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said.

Abella added that the birth of Stonefish "strengthens" the President's campaign against illegal drugs.

"The arrival of the Chief Executive's newest apo Stonefish strengthens PRRD's resolve to leave a legacy of a Philippines safe and secure from drugs and heinous crimes to future generation of Filipinos," Abella said.

President Duterte's eldest daughter announced in August that she was having a "difficult" pregnancy and was advised by her doctors to rest.

The couple has two other children, Sharky and Stingray.
