MALAY, Aklan - Tourists visiting Boracay Island were advised by local authorities on Friday about the presence of the bluebottle jellyfish.

Beachgoers were advised against touching the jellyfish even if it is not in the water since its stingers remain active.

The warning was issued after the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office reported sightings of the bluebottle jellyfish on Puka Beach.

A venomous type of jellyfish, the bluebottle's sting is very painful and could be felt for up to 2 hours.

However, it is not capable of killing people, said Aaron Senday, information officer of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
