In a speech in Malacanang on Tuesday, Duterte said the Catholic Church has no moral ascendancy to lecture him because some members of the clergy are also engaged in sinful acts.&quot;I challenge you now. I challenge the Catholic Church. You are full of s**t at mabaho rin kayong lahat, corruption and all,&quot; Duterte said during his scheduled meeting with relatives of Special Action Force (SAF) troopers killed in the January 25, 2015 Mamasapano massacre.Duterte also singled out prominent Bishop Emeritus Teodoro Bacani, former head of the Diocese of Novaliches, and claimed that Bacani also has 2 wives like him. “P****g i***g Bacani ‘yan, dalawa pala ang asawa. Pareho ko, parang mayor din ang buang. Tapos kung magsalita itong unggoy na ito. T**g i*a,” Duterte said (F** that Bacani, he has 2 wives just like me, he&#x27;s just like a mayor, that fool. F***)Bacani has previously criticized Duterte&#x27;s war on drugs.On the third day of the 4th World Apostolic Congress on Mercy, Bacani hit the police force’s anti-drug operation, particularly its “Oplan Tokhang” (Knock and Plead), which he called the “bringer of death.”“Today, the Lord in His mercy, he knocks and when he knocks he brings grace…Today, we in the Philippines, we also get knocks. We call it Tokhang. But this Tokhang is not a bringer of grace. It is a bringer of death,” Bacani said.Duterte also recommended that people read &quot;Altar of Secrets: Sex, Politics, and Money in the Philippine Catholic Church,&quot; written by the late investigative reporter Aries Rufo, a book on church corruption and alleged sexual indiscretions of some bishops, including Bacani and Bishop Crisostomo Yalung. It was published in 2013 by Journalism for Nation Building Foundation. Duterte, a Catholic like the estimated 80 percent of Filipinos, has repeatedly been hitting at the Catholic Church and some of its leaders for speaking out against his war on drugs.
