MANILA - The certificate of canvass for Cotabato City showed conflicting data between the total number of actual voters and the total number of votes in the Bangsamoro plebiscite.

According to the certificate of canvass, which will be submitted to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) national headquarters, there were only 39,027 people in Cotabato City who voted in the plebiscite.

The results, however, showed 36,682 people voted "yes" while 24,994 voted "no" in the city.

The total number of votes was 61,676.

Cotabato City has 113,751 total registered voters.

In an interview with DZMM, Atty. Rommel Rama, City Election Officer, said they have yet to verify the conflicting figures.

He said the numbers were computer-generated.

"Lahat 'yung galing sa entry sa computer 'yun ang... Possible explanation ay may ER (election return) na walang entry ng registered voters," Rama said.

More than half — or 59 percent — of voters in Cotabato City ratified the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), according to the final count of the Cotabato City Plebiscite Board of Canvassers.

The law, which resulted from a peace pact between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), has been a hotly contested topic in this southern city as the Cotabato mayor herself, Cynthia Guiani, has been actively campaigning against the landmark legislation.
