MANILA—Camarines Sur vice-governor Fortunato Peña has quit his post for "personal" reasons.

Peña made the announcement in a Facebook post Wednesday, when he submitted his resignation to the Office of the President.

"It is true po that I submitted my letter of resignation to the Office of the President today but the effectivity of my resignation is Feb 28, 2019," he said.

Peña added that his support remains for Camarines Sur Gov. Miguel Villafuerte, who is seeking reelection in the midterm elections in May.

Villafuerte will be facing his father's longtime rival, House Majority Leader Rolando "Nonoy" Andaya.

"The reason for my resignation is personal. I will remain to be a loyal supporter of Gov. Migs and the Villafuerte family," Peña said.

"I posted this announcement to correct earlier posts by other individuals putting political color on my resignation. I remain loyal to team one CamSur. Salamat po (Thank you)."
