The Matcha Tokyo has opened its newest and largest branch in the Philippines—and it’s unlike any of its previous locations. Now open at the 3rd Floor of SM Mall of Asia’s Main Mall, this flagship store blends serene Japanese design, calming rituals, and new menu exclusives into a destination that invites you to pause.

Even if you’ve been to other branches of The Matcha Tokyo, this one introduces elements you won’t find anywhere else.

Here’s what to expect from this beautifully designed new café:

1. A Zen Garden at the Center of It All

This is not your typical café. At the heart of the flagship is a karesansui, or traditional Japanese zen rock garden, carefully placed to evoke stillness and harmony. It’s the visual and spiritual anchor of the space, bringing a quiet meditative energy to the room.

2. A Skylight That Mimics Forest Light

A man-made skylight bathes the central green zone in soft, natural-looking light—designed to mimic the way sunlight filters through a forest. Combined with tall indoor trees and lounge seating, it creates a calm, nature-inspired space that encourages you to sit down and stay a while.

3. Architecture That Reflects Manila Bay

Design details are inspired by the flagship’s location near the water. The café features free-flowing lines along its counters and walls, mimicking the gentle curves of Manila Bay. The main service counter even takes the shape of a bay, centering the act of tea-making in the guest experience.

4. A Whisk-It-Yourself Matcha Experience

Exclusive to this flagship store is a new Matcha and Hojicha Experience, where you get to whisk your own tea and pour your own latte—a unique ritual that brings guests closer to the heart of Japanese tea culture. Each experience is paired with a dessert sampler that includes cookie butter Basque cheesecake, warabi mochi, a matcha madeleine, and a butter cookie.

It’s an immersive moment of calm in the middle of one of the country’s busiest malls.

5. A Flagship-Only Menu—With a Secret Item

The Matcha Tokyo at MOA introduces a new savory menu: pressed panini available in six signature flavors—and a mysterious seventh you’ll have to ask the barista about. For something refreshing, there are new Yogurt Bowls in Blueberry Mango and Strawberry Banana.

On the sweet side, expect inventive desserts like the Ensaymatcha (a playful twist on the ensaymada), Mont Blanc Toast, and Steamed Bread with Butter in flavors like matcha, shoyu, and sweet potato.

6. A Design That Encourages Slowing Down

This is the brand’s most spacious location yet, with seating for 60 and a layout that blends architecture, nature, and symbolism. Everything about it—from the curves of the counters to the soft forest lighting—has been crafted to encourage guests to slow down, take a breath, and enjoy their tea with intention.

7. A New Expression of the Matcha Lifestyle

Founded in 2018, The Matcha Tokyo champions “matcha for a healthy and beautiful life” with 100% organic Japanese matcha. This flagship goes beyond drinks and desserts. It brings together wellness, mindfulness, and café culture in a way that feels calm, contemporary, and quietly luxurious.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or curious first-timer, this new store offers a deeper look into the matcha lifestyle.
