If you’re hunting for authentic Thai food in Manila that balances tradition with thoughtful updates, AzuThai in Makati has just rolled out a menu worth exploring. The beloved Thai restaurant is no stranger to loyal diners, but with its newly launched specials crafted by sous chef Kanjana, it’s now attracting a new wave of curious palates.

Chef Kanjana brings years of culinary depth to the table—from her early days at Hilton Bangkok to her Michelin-starred training at Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin. For AzuThai’s latest dishes, she draws from that experience to reimagine classics with nuanced twists, highlighting flavor, texture, and freshness.

The Creamy Pomelo Salad (Yam Som O Kathi) is a clear standout, with shrimp, chicken, and toasted coconut dressed in a sweet-citrusy coconut-lime sauce. Bright and layered, this salad offers a delicate interplay of textures. The pomelo bursts gently between bites, its slight bitterness grounding the dish’s sweetness.

Meanwhile, the Spicy Papaya and Noodle Salad (Som Tam Khanom Jaan) delivers a refreshing punch, made richer and more playful with the addition of rice noodles.

Craving something crispy? The Prawn Spring Rolls (Goong Hom Pha) and Crisp-Fried Squid (Pla Muk Thod) arrive golden and crunchy, paired with a sweet-spicy dipping sauce that’s bold without being overwhelming. The spring rolls deliver a satisfying snap as you bite in, giving way to succulent prawns delicately wrapped in crackling layers. Meanwhile, the squid offers a contrast—lightly battered, still tender at the center, and evenly coated with a glaze that teases heat and sweetness in perfect balance.

The Thai Basil Fried Rice (Khao Pad Kra Prow), with either chicken or pork and a crispy fried egg, is a go-to for easy comfort. But it’s the Massaman Lamb Shank (Massamam Khan Gaeh) that feels like the crown jewel: rich, tender, and fragrant, with melting potatoes and a luscious nutty curry sauce that lingers in the best way. The lamb is fall-off-the-bone soft, its deeply spiced gravy clinging to every strand. Each spoonful delivers warmth, sweetness, and depth, easily the standout of the entire lineup.

Dessert keeps things fun and deeply rooted in Thai tradition. Ruamit, a Thai-style halo-halo, is light, tropical, and fragrant with coconut milk, while the Mango Sticky Rice Ice Cream Sundae takes a classic and reimagines it with scoops of creamy indulgence. The Ruamit offers a refreshing medley of textures and subtle sweetness, while the sundae captures the essence of mango sticky rice, cool, lush, and a little cheeky in its playful presentation.

Drinks include Thai Iced Tea, Lemongrass Iced Tea, soft drinks, and coffee. Simple but well-curated to round out the meal.

As a special treat, Union Bank cardholders can enjoy an exclusive Secret Menu Promo from June 21 to July 21, 2025, an added reason to book a visit. This limited-time offering includes Giant Crispy Pork and Shrimp Wontons (Kew Tod): A deep-fried crunch with a meaty bite, served with a zippy sweet-spicy dipping sauce. Larger than usual, these wontons are all crackle and savor. The pork-shrimp filling is dense and well-seasoned, with the dipping sauce adding just enough brightness to balance the richness.

Hot and Sour Salmon Soup (Tom Yum Salmon):  a broth layered with lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, mushrooms, tomatoes, and fresh herbs. Restorative, bold, and perfectly spiced. A vivid red broth hits with lemongrass and chili upfront, then rounds out with kaffir lime and coriander. The salmon is firm, not flaky, holding its own amid the intensity. It’s a full-bodied, modern take on a Thai staple.
