Before being known as one of the gregarious momshie-hosts of “Magandang Buhay,” Jolina Magdangal was an esteemed performer and Filipino pop culture icon first.

In her 35 years in show business, she’s not only able to showcase her versatility and brilliance as a multi-faceted performer, but also her vibrant and adorable personality through her remarkably quirky and colorful fashion. With how massively influential she has been, especially to the Batang 90s who grew up idolizing her, there’s indeed no doubt why Jolina is hailed as the “Philippine Pop Culture Icon.”

Just in case there are people out there who have forgotten or are unaware that the one and only “Jolegend Slaydangal,” the witty moniker given to her by fans in recent years, is a ‘90s icon, well, let the clips in this Magandang Buhay Toplist serve as reminders.

Her team-up with Marvin Agustin was absolutely huge

Discussing Momshie Jolens career wouldn't be complete without mentioning the name of her perpetual "labtim," Marvin Agustin. As we all know, they have been among the best-loved tandems through the years, enduring the continuous influx of loveteams despite not working together for quite some time.

Momshie Jolens and Marvin appeared in several hit projects together, including the notable 1999 flicks “Gimik: The Reunion” and “Hey Babe.”

She is almost every girl’s style icon

Many girls who grew up in the ‘90s to early 2000s probably had that phase in their childhood when they wore butterfly clips and other colorful accessories, which were popularized by Momshie Jolens. And one of them is Asia’s Soul Supreme KZ Tandingan, who proudly disclosed that Jolina used to be her style icon. She imparted that her being ‘boyish’ in her younger years wasn’t able to shield her from being struck by the “Jolina Fever” since she was fond of wearing butterfly clips then.

Even though a lot of people admired and emulated her fashion, there were still those who were apparently not happy with it. In another episode of “Magandang Buhay,” Momshie Jolens recalled that there was actually one instance in “ASAP” when someone from the audience shouted “baduy” and “bakya” to her while she was performing. Thankfully, her fellow mainstays Ariel Rivera and Richard Gomez were there to protect her, as well as to scold the nasty heckler.

She felt a bit hurt, but that didn’t hinder her from creating her own style. Momshie Melai and their guest co-host Momshie Janice De Belen expressed their admiration for her, as the former recounted that girls from the province were amazed by her style, while the latter shared that she used to put banana clips to her daughters’ hair when they were still young.

She has a lot of fans through the years

As they talked about her exceptional showbiz journey, Jolina disclosed that she didn’t let fame get into her head despite being one of the biggest stars of her generation. However, she only realized that she was already famous when her songs consecutively topped various local music charts and many people were singing them, especially in her public performances. At the same time, she also recalled being barred from going to the mall for her and her fans' safety.

Lastly, the biggest proof that Momshie Jolina is indeed an icon is that everyone is a fan, regardless of the status. And we’re able to witness it when, after the birthday greetings and well-wishes from her family, friends, and colleagues, a montage of the “ASAP” family, along with her beloved kids Pele and Vika, singing and dancing to one of her greatest hits, “Chuva Choo Choo,” was also shown.
