Rejections and pain are never easy to handle. But, singers Klarisse de Guzman and Kuh Ledesma might have found a simple formula: patience and prayers. Join the power belters as they share their story of rising above their hurtful experiences in this episode of Magandang Buhay The Podcast.

Klarisse and her ‘kontesera’ journey

There is a high correlation between dreams and rejection because, more often than not, dreams don’t manifest overnight. It took years and a lot of waiting before Klarisse earned the glimmering success she has today. She went through her fair share of losses before her runner-up finish in The Voice of The Philippines that launched her career in the mainstream OPM scene.

One rejection that she will never forget was being told, “Magaling ka pero magpapayat ka muna,” during an audition. In such heartbreaking times, she’d cling to her mother, who patiently supported her dreams to become a singer. Klarisse revealed that her mom lined up for her during her The Voice audition while she comfortably waited for her turn. Now that her mom is growing old and can’t be with her in every performance, Klarisse treasures all her mom’s sacrifices and does her best to pay them back.

Their tenacity now pays off as Klarisse stages her first major solo concert aptly titled “Her Time,” produced by Vice Ganda.

The Unkabogable Star has shown fondness and admiration toward Klarisse since welcoming her as a Tawag Ng Tanghalan hurado on It’s Showtime in July 2021. As seen in their banters, he finds her talented, so much so he casually mentioned in a July 2022 episode that he’s willing to produce her concert, saying her voice deserves to be heard. What she thought was just a punchline turned out to be real.

With a concert happening this month and all the amazing milestones in her career, Klarisse realizes God truly works in His perfect time, telling her younger self, “Magaling ka at darating din ‘yung time na maririnig ka ng sobrang maraming tao at maraming hahanga sa’yo.”

Kuh and her biggest heartbreak

There was a time Kuh would feel embarrassed when asked about her marital separation. Now, she’s even grateful to be sharing her story, which started with pain but ended with redemption.

In this episode, the iconic diva admitted that breaking up is not an easy decision, especially in her case that she’s married for more than 20 years and has a daughter, “I felt betrayed. Lahat na naramdaman ko.”

Amid her pain and questions, she found the answer in the Bible. Empowered by her Bible study sessions, she had the humility to admit her fair share of mistakes and become thankful to God for moving in her life by using her heartbreak to lead her to salvation. The night her husband left, their second time separating, she just held on to the bible verse that says, “Weeping may last for a night joy comes in the morning,” and miraculously felt at peace the next day.

Kuh went on to share how they managed her daughter Isabella’s bipolar condition. She said her lack of knowledge about mental health made her doubtful and bitter, but through proper medication involving psychotherapy, Isabella is now in a good place. The journey was difficult as Isabella took medicines for 14 years. And with this experience, Kuh’s greatest takeaway is that “we have to know how to speak to our children.”

Listen to Klarisse and Kuh’s meaningful conversation with momshies Jolina Magdangal, Regine Velasquez, and Melai Cantiveros in this episode of Magandang Buhay The Podcast.
