Whenever Dimples Romana and husband Boyet Ahmee talk about their marriage and make promises to each other, every word sounds like the best wedding vow.

But at the heart of their strong family life aren't just the sweet nothings. Theirs is about teamwork and sacrifice. Get snippets of wisdom from the power couple in this episode of Magandang Buhay The Podcast.

There were tears of joy – and love – when Dimples and Boyet celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on Magandang Buhay. Two decades, and it still feels like their first day of being husband and wife.

“Twenty years na ang lumipas pero magkaibigan pa rin tayo,” Dimples told her forever partner in life. The two rehashed their love story, which started when they became neighbors. Boyet, who is almost a decade older, didn’t feel an instant romantic spark with then-16-year-old Dimples. But he was admittedly intimidated, as his mom was already a fan of hers.

Instead, she dated Boyet’s friend, then ran to him for comfort when the relationship ended. It was followed by casual friendly dates until Dimples tried to test Boyet’s feelings. She would pretend to ask for help in her school works and jokingly tell him, “I love you.”

“The love came after the friendship,” gushed Dimples, who has kept Boyet’s first love note wherein he confessed that he was beginning to fall for her.

Real talk, though, their marriage has had a lot of rocky times, too. The biggest, so far, was when their families didn’t get along well.

In marriage, thinking about only yourself or your own happiness will leave you disappointed. Because to make things work, you must make sacrifices, understand, and forgive – and do it all over again.

Asked the greatest thing they’ve done for each other, Boyet honored his wife for giving him a beautiful family. Sometimes he can’t help but wonder what Dimples saw in him, still carrying traces of the intimidated feeling he had when he first met her. But he’s certain that her love has never changed. She might be swamped with work all the time, but that doesn’t mean she loves him any less.

On her part, Dimples admitted that she feels guilty for being busy and away from home. But she can’t stop working, not yet. Her kids have big dreams and she wants to be able to support them. Listen to the podcast and find out how they keep their setup work.

The couple turned more emotional when asked their messages for their kids. It’s worth noting how their children Callie, Alonzo, and Elio are evolving into each one person. Callie is the determined child, “mataas ang lipad” as her mother puts it, as she witnessed her parents’ struggle when they were just starting a family. Alonzo was the one who filled their home with joy, so much so there was no space for negativity. Meanwhile, Elio, who just turned one, is the healer of the family.

These children are the cheerleaders that motivate Dimples and Boyet to keep going. They might have unconventional roles in their marriage, but they’d stick to what works for them.
