Perched along a pristine stretch of the Pagbilao coastline just a 3.5-hour drive away from Manila, The Hideaway offers an exclusive retreat far from the usual tourist summer spots. This chic beach house is modeled after The Hamptons—an affluent, beachside region on Long Island, New York, known for its luxury estates as a summer retreat for wealthy New Yorkers. True to its inspiration, The Hideaway evokes an elegant yet relaxed vibe that combines sensible luxury, natural beauty, and timeless style.

A Labor of Love

“The Hideaway is part family beach home, part villa rental. While we built it as a weekend escape for our family of six, we also wanted to share our piece of paradise with select guests since we cannot be there all the time,” Ria Attaway shared, who owns The Hideaway with her husband Matt and their four children. 

“The house reflects our love for the outdoors and the sea,” shared Ria.

We designed it for seamless indoor-outdoor living, with expansive decks, garden spaces, and all four master bedrooms opening directly to outdoor areas with stunning beach views. Large windows and sliding doors bring the outside in. While we kept the palette classic with whites and beiges, we added accents of turquoise, light blue, and navy to capture the sea’s shifting hues throughout the day,” Ria shared.
The Palm's master balcony gives a breathtaking view of golden sunset skies and the oceanThe Attaways’ fine design taste must be inherited, as Ella, Ria’s eldest, eagerly got herself involved with some of the rooms’ interiors. “My oldest daughter, Ella, was 9 or 10 when we were building, and her passion for design really showed. The Sea Glass room, including the bathroom, is her creation. Originally, it didn’t have a tub, but Ella envisioned one, so we redesigned the space to include it. She selected the tiles, curated the furniture, and chose the decor. Avery and MJ also contributed—Avery decorated the Starfish room, and MJ took charge of the Whaler (bunk bed kids’ room). I guided them, but they picked the bedding, prints, and decor themselves.”

Every amenity is well-thought-out, every area is intuitively prepared, and every detail aims to bring delight. The living room is set up with a 50-inch smart screen and surround sound speakers, ideal for karaoke and movie marathons. The complete provision of kitchen tools and appliances ensures fuss-free cooking and dining, with utensils and tableware charmingly matching the nautical theme. The comfortable bedroom features shower toiletries, luxurious beddings, with bath and pool towels.

There is always something fun to do at The Hideaway. There is complimentary use of paddle boards and kayaks for sea-driven play, an infinity pool with a heated jacuzzi for relaxation and recreation, pool floats for sunny lounging, games for family bonding and friendly competition, and a gas fire pit for s’mores on cold summer nights and intimate conversations under the starry skies. The closeness of their proximity to the beach allows rental boats to carry guests away from The Hideaway’s doorstep, should you want to explore the nearby sandbar and seacove.

The deck is a great area to lounge and dine while inhaling the sea breeze & taking in the views The Attaways are big on enjoyable adventures, but they also take guest service seriously that is why personalized experiences are available for those checked-in. “Our onsite staff is amazing. Led by Nova and Ryan, a husband and wife team, we have partnered with the locals to provide banca boat rentals, poolside massages, beach picnics during low tide, and sourcing local seafood.” To top it all off, guests can capture new memories made, as The Hideaway gladly offers a family photoshoot service for an additional fee, to be booked in advance. Now that’s a picture-perfect way to reminisce about one’s stay at The Hideaway, as their package comes with a sintra-board printout of the guest’s favorite photo.

It is, after all, the generous beauty that surrounds their home. When asked what steps they take to preserve the surrounding marine and coastal environment, Ria answered, “For sustainability, we use permanent and refillable bottles for shower essentials, and large water dispensers to avoid single-use plastic. We also ask guests to help conserve energy and turn off lights and air-conditioners when not in use, since the house is already flooded with natural light. And lastly, we routinely do beach cleanups. Our staff collect trash that washes up on a daily basis. Our kids and their friends get involved, too—they help clean up at low tide.”

There’s only one downside when staying at The Hideaway—it's when you have to bid the place goodbye. When asked what three words best describe the place, Ria chose perfectly—”barefoot seaside luxury.” My overall experience is made up of small, compounded moments that make one appreciate the thoughtfulness and hospitality of the hosts and staff, while consistently being awestruck by the sheer delight the home’s interiors and amenities bring. The aesthetic is quaintly refined but still comfortably livable. The interiors and exteriors surely feel surreal, but everything about this home makes sense.
