Cebu Pacific is one of the biggest airlines in the Philippines which offers flights for both domestic and international. It is known for its low-cost fares and services that allow tourists to visit and see the beauty of a destination without breaking their wallets. They connect people to places and they make dreams happen.

“Now this is why, at Cebu Pacific, we've always been committed to supporting domestic tourism and improving connectivity. Because by expanding our network and creating new routes, we also create more jobs, not just in Manila, but across the archipelago. So now that we are preparing for our next phase of growth, we believe that we have this opportunity to use business as a platform for inclusive and sustainable growth”, Ms. Candice Iyog, Vice President of Marketing and Distribution of Cebu Pacific shared during the Heritage in Flight: Weaving Our Nation’s Heritage, Juan Flight At A Time event last January.

Currently, Cebu Pacific calls for the “Weaving The Past Into the Future” campaign where the airline showcases Philippine textiles and its stories. QR flight codes are placed in the traditional weaves that are being displayed in magazines, major avenues, and airports across the country. Scanning these QR codes will lead you to the beautiful story of the Philippines' pride in Textiles and the weaving community they belong to. The campaign not only entices people to travel but also helps travelers to learn more about the country and its rich culture and heritage.

This campaign features five weaving styles from different regions in the country, the Inabel, Ramit, Hablon, Patadyong, and Yakan which was featured in Metro’s January cover with Isabel Galeria, the model and beauty queen.

The Inabel weaves come from Ilocos Norte. It features geometric patterns that create an optical illusion. These patterns were inspired by nature markings which were said to tell stories about nature's energy.

Ramit weaves originated in Occidental Mindoro. This tradition of Ramit weaving is passed down through generations by the Hanunuo Mangyan tribe. Its elegant colored stripes are what makes it unique and beautiful.

Hablon, another weave style featured in this campaign, comes from Iloilo. It features bright hues and is iconic for its plaid design. It is one of the signature weaves of the province. Hablon is made with a handloom using Abaca, Piña, and Cotton.

Another kind of weave in Cebu Pacific's campaign is Patadyong, a style known for its colorful checkered patterns from the province of Antique.

Last but definitely not the least on this list, is the Tennun or Yakan weave from Zamboanga. Yakan weaving is popular for its vibrant colors, geometric patterns, and intricate designs. The designs of the Yakan weavers are inspired by the tribe’s culture and way of life as Islam and that tradition is passed down through generations as well.

This campaign is made possible by the key partners— the weavers from the different communities, the Paoay weavers of Ilocos Norte, the Hanunuo Mangyan of Occidental Mindoro, the Patnongon Multipurpose Cooperative of Antique, and the Oriental weavers of Zamboanga.

Aside from the great weavers of the country, Cebu Pacific partners with the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute. "This collaboration celebrates our culture and creative industries as another booster to domestic tourism.", Dr. Julius Leaño Jr. of DOST-PTRI shared. “Through these yarns, we can touch and reach different regional handloom weaving hubs across the Philippines. Each of them has a story, different contexts, different cultures, and different aspirations”, he stressed.

Proving Cebu Pacific’s mission to spread awareness of Philippine Textiles and its stories, weaving installations are visible on the major roads in the country like EDSA. Now, passersby get to enjoy the vibrant patterns and beautifully made weaves from where they are.

Cebu Pacific showcases not just the weaves but the culture and heritage that’s made rich through the community weavers. Indeed, “woven with pride”.
