The song “blue” became such a viral, chart-topping hit that it spurred over 14 million user-generated content on Instagram and TikTok. It has topped music charts, with the artist’s monthly listeners on Spotify skyrocketing to over 20 million. The charming voice behind the nostalgic love anthem turned out to be that of young Chinese-Canadian indie musician yung kai whose humble beginnings as an artist all started from his home studio (aka his bedroom).

In an exclusive interview with Metro.Style, yung kai said his musical inclination started with him playing instruments like the drums, piano, and guitar. It wasn’t until about three years ago that he tried singing. Equipped with song ideas, that raw and promising musicality, and the online platforms to showcase his song covers, yung kai essentially became a self-made artist.

yung kai recently released a new single, “do you think you could love me,“ and hopes to release an EP this year. Truly, exciting times are ahead for this wunderkind, whose modern-day love songs are timeless hits in the making.

Recently, yung kai was in Manila for the Wanderland Festival, and ahead of his performance at the event, we got the chance to meet him and learn more about his music.
