Miss International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago is a beauty queen with a purpose. In 2018, she was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. She had to undergo dialysis for four years until, in 2022, she received a kidney transplant, thanks to her brother.

In an Instagram post in April 2022, Bea shared, "Being on dialysis was tough. It almost broke my mind, spirit, and body (literally sooo weak). My advice to everyone going through a tough season: 'If you want light to come into your life, STAND WHERE IT IS SHINING!' You are braver than you believe and stronger than you think! Kaya natin 'to!"

Since then, Bea Rose has become a kidney warrior and awareness advocate. Throughout her journey, she has inspired many to stay strong and optimistic despite the trials and uncertainty—“let's be better, not bitter,“ she once said. Because of her ordeal with kidney disease, she has constantly reminded everyone to focus on their health and wellness.

“'You only live once,' so make it count and live. Live longer and healthier. I have travelled, lived in different countries, joined and won beauty competitions, started acting, and became a host/presenter, but nothing beats a healthy mind and body,“ Bea Rose emphasized.

Fast forward to today, Bea Rose continues to inspire people, especially women, to make the most of life by being mindful and intentional. After all, it truly feels great that our lives' purpose is to live a life of purpose.

This Women's Month, Bea Rose joins a meaningful campaign that explores the facets of a woman while displaying beauty and strength. The "Stories & Strength – RFLXN: The Many Faces of a Woman" exhibition by renowned conceptual visual artist and photographer Niccolo Cosme highlights the use of fractured mirrors, designed by Myke Oropesa Mayores, to symbolize the multifaceted nature of womanhood.

Bea Rose shares this spotlight with other inspiring women like Belo's Cristalle Belo, She Talks Asia's Lynn Pinugu, Pinay Girl Boss' Mariefield Faith, and social entrepreneur/fashion designer Zarah Juan, among others.

Bea Rose graced the launch of "Stories & Strength – RFLXN: The Many Faces of a Woman" and shared an inspiring message about womanhood:

"A woman is never just one thing. She is strength and grace, fire and kindness, a dreamer and a fighter. Today, we celebrate every version of us. As a beauty queen, I once stood on stage with a crown. But life had other plans. I faced kidney failure, a battle that tested my spirit and self-worth. Today, I stand before you, celebrating my third year and kidney anniversary, a living testament of resilience, second chances, and the power of a woman who refuses to give up. For too long, the world has tried to define us, but we are limitless, whether we lead, nurture, create, or fight for change. Our power lies in our choices. True empowerment is lifting each other, embracing our differences, and knowing that we are enough. Always. So, let's stand together, break barriers, and own every part of who we are. Because when women rise, the world rises with us."

The exhibit is part of the RFLXN headshot campaign by Project Headshot Clinic where Cosme serves as creative director; it was put together through the partnership between Strokes Cosmetics, Nudefloor, Pinay Girl Boss, She Talks Asia, and Shangri-La Plaza. View the "Stories & Strength – RFLXN: The Many Faces of a Woman" exhibition only at the East Atrium of Shangri-La Plaza until March 30.
