EXO Chen's "Beyond the Door" tour in Manila

<p><strong>Chen</strong>, one of the main vocalists of the K-pop supergroup <strong>EXO</strong>, recently returned to Manila to conclude his first solo fan con &quot;<strong>Beyond the Door&quot;</strong> tour. Presented by <strong>Wilbros Live</strong>, t<strong></strong>his also marked his first solo show in the Philippines.</p><p>It was a beautiful move to send off and mark the end of the tour as Filipino <strong>EXO-Ls</strong> trooped to <strong>New Frontier Theater </strong>to support Chen as a solo artist with most of the fans wearing clothes in white and yellow colors. The fans also showed up inside the theater with dandelion lights and door-shaped banners that said “You fill our days with brightness, our sunshine Jongdae!” and detailed that day’s fan projects to show love and support for the singer.</p><p>Before the main event, it was quite a treat that along General Malvar Avenue where the New Frontier Theater is, there were several Chen lamp post banners that fans could take pictures of and get all excited about. The mood was certainly set for the show.</p><div><br/></div><div style="text-align:center"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1732868184742468268752_900257205530321_4906240463204591597_n.jpg" style="width:1080px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><div><br/></div><p>As the lights dimmed, fans were surprised as Chen casually and nonchalantly strolled in without much of a fanfare to serenade the crowd with his opening songs &quot;<strong>Empty</strong>&quot; and &quot;<strong>Dandelion</strong>.&quot;</p><p>“<em>Grabe</em>, it’s been such a long time ‘di ba?” Chen exclaimed, with the translator even mimicking his excited vocal expression, his fondness evident.</p><p>“I really have to say this before we begin anything. You guys are the same since before the last time we met. Passionate, powerful, beautiful, cute,&quot; he said, with each description met with the loudest cheers.</p><p>Before moving forward with the concert, Chen set some “rules” to fully enjoy his concert.</p><p>“I’m really feeling excited about this. <em>Kahit</em> last stop <em>na ng</em> tour, <em>sana wala tayong</em> regret and enjoy the night together. To do that, we have to prepare a few things. First thing, I don’t think I have to mention it <em>kasi sobrang</em> lovely <em>mga </em>cheers <em>ninyo</em>. And for the second thing, don’t mind other people and sing as much as you can. There’s one last thing: don’t look anywhere else but me. I want to say [it’s] a world [for] just you and me…always have eye contact with me, all right?” he said, translated, to the delight of the fans and concertgoers.</p><p>Chen continued to showcase his strong and honey vocals with &quot;<strong>Remember</strong>&quot;<strong> </strong>and &quot;<strong>I Don’t Even Mind</strong>.&quot; </p><div><br/></div><div style="text-align:center"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1732868679045468298478_431845909805622_2302629768726750873_n.jpg" style="width:1080px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><div><br/></div><p>True to its nature of being a fan con, &quot;Beyond the Door&quot; came with a funny segment called <strong>CHEN-LLENGE</strong> where the singer had to guess the title of the song with only the lyrics flashed onscreen as a clue. If he fails to guess the song correctly, his penalty is to wear a surprise costume from a box. As predicted, it’s the kind of game where fans would root for him to fail so he could wear a penalty costume. It made things more fun with Chen playfully complaining to the director and how in his other concert stops, the fans didn’t make a countdown to rush him to answer unlike here in Manila. </p><p>In this extremely funny segment, we saw the usually shy Chen wear fairy, Cardcaptor Sakura, French Fries, Emperor (where the fans chanted “<em>Pog</em><em>i</em>!”), Harry Potter, bathrobe, and Squirrel (Chen was so amused with the English translation that he said the word “squirrel” repeatedly) costumes to everyone’s amusement. Though it was funny, it was also special for fans as he got to sing some parts of the songs he failed to guess like EXO’s &quot;Love Me Right,&quot; &quot;Playboy,&quot; &quot;Artificial Love;&quot; Baekhyun’s &quot;Amusement Park&quot; and &quot;Pineapple Slice;&quot; and Xiumin’s &quot;You Are the One&quot; and &quot;Reminisce&quot; as well as EXO-CBX’s &quot;Rhythm After Summer.&quot;</p><div><br/></div><div style="text-align:center"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1732868842744468214813_451453410979419_8135222332438725925_n.jpg" style="width:1080px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><div><br/></div><p>Still in a funny costume, Chen got right into singing and performed a groovy set of songs which included &quot;<strong>Playlist</strong>,&quot; &quot;<strong>Fall In Love Again</strong>,&quot;<strong></strong> and &quot;<strong>Hold You Again</strong>.&quot; </p><p>After a VCR break, he went back onstage to sing the heartbreaking breakup song &quot;<strong>Beautiful Goodbye</strong>&quot;<strong></strong><strong></strong> and the love confession tune &quot;<strong>Love You</strong>.&quot; Chen said he made the latter song to express how thankful he is to have fans who truly accept, love, and care for him, making him really happy. He then went on to sing &quot;<strong>Don’t Remember</strong>,&quot; &quot;<strong>Shall We?</strong>,&quot; and &quot;<strong>Starlight</strong>&quot; where fans brought out and waved the dandelion lights making the whole theater look magical resembling a starry night sky.</p><p>Perhaps, one of the most memorable parts of the night was the encore fan project singing &quot;<strong>Everytime</strong>,&quot; Chen’s hit song from the Hallyu drama <strong><em>Descendants of the Sun</em></strong>. During this part, the melodious voices of EXO-Ls filled the hall sending goosebumps all over with how beautiful singing in unison is. It was so beautiful that when Chen came out, he couldn’t help but get jealous and joked that Manila fans were enjoying and having so much fun even without him onstage. I call you [by] different names and that just shows I really care for you, guys,” Chen said. He then proceeded to share his experience when he flew to Manila the night before the show.</p><p>“The plane was flying within the darkness of the night. I really couldn’t sleep so I opened the window and there were countless stars in front of me. Out of all the experiences I’ve had with stars, last night there were so many and it was the brightest I’ve ever witnessed. Seeing that scenery, it reminded me of you guys. Of course, I’m looking at these really good stars but there were cooler stars around and that’s why I thought of you.
