Awards with 15 citations, followed by Tanghalang Pilipino’s “Gregoria Lakambini: A Pinay Pop Musical” with 13, Philstage announced Monday.</p><p>The 13-member jury released the final batch of citations for the 2026 ceremonies of Philstage’s annual theater awards, covering four productions: “Shrek” by Full House Theater Company, “Gregoria Lakambini” by Tanghalang Pilipino, “Alice in Wonderland” by Repertory Philippines, and “A Christmas Carol” by 9 Works Theatrical.</p><p>“Shrek” dominated the technical and performance categories, earning citations for musical direction, choreography, lighting, sound, set, and projection design, as well as multiple lead and featured acting performances.</p><p>“Gregoria Lakambini” led the honors for original Filipino work, collecting citations for book, original score, musical direction, choreography, and several design and performance categories.</p><p>“A Christmas Carol” received four citations, while “Alice in Wonderland” earned one.</p><p>Under Gawad Buhay rules, “A Christmas Carol” was classified as a revival, defined as a production that is radically restaged and differently directed and designed from a previous staging by the same company. The ruling refers to 9 Works Theatrical’s 2016 production, which was considered during the 9th Gawad Buhay Awards.</p><p>As a result, individuals who worked on both productions in the same capacity were deemed ineligible for citations in the current edition. These include director Robbie Guevara, musical director Daniel Bartolome, choreographer PJ Rebullida, set and costume designer Mio Infante, and performer Franco Laurel.</p><p>The jury noted that the ruling follows precedents set during the 14th Gawad Buhay Awards, including decisions involving The Sandbox Collective’s “Lungs” and The Necessary Theatre’s “Red.”</p><p>Citations render productions and creative elements eligible for nomination but do not guarantee a nomination, in line with awards rules.
