Handout</div>In the past years, the Full House Theater Company (FHTC) produced a memorable musical every year. Audiences remember “Ang Huling El Bimbo” and the more recent “Delia D,” staged earlier this year.This 2025, FHTC is mounting two major productions with “Shrek The Musical” opening on Friday, October 31, at the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT).“It’s part of the vision of FHTC to produce quality performances for our wide audience,” associate director Michael Williams told ABS-CBN News. “We plan to do as many as we can for as many as our audience and provide a variety of these shows.”FHTC plans to make a “theme park” on the massive NPAT stage for “Shrek The Musical,” as the vision of director Dexter Santos.“We want to make it very visually stimulating for the children” said co-artistic director Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo. “It has been 24 years since &#x27;Shrek&#x27; was first introduced on the big screen. A lot of people may not know him anymore.”When asked if staging two major productions a year will become a trend for FHTC, Williams said it aligns with the company’s long-term vision.“It’s part of Kevin Tan’s vision to create original Filipino productions while also bringing in and staging international shows,” he explained.“We are opening four theaters eventually. We are looking at not just two, it may be more. Though we are planning to do Filipino and international productions, we want to be agile and be able to provide our audiences with whatever is current, whatever is interesting. “Maybe two Filipino productions and two international depending on the current trend or whatever is interesting.”Lauchengco-Yulo has seen the market grow through the years. “As everybody knows, theater in the Philippines is really booming with all the productions happening one by one,” Lauchengco-Yulo said. “There are even shows happening simultaneously.“As far as FHTC is concerned, it’s the variety of shows that we managed to stage, particularly the jukebox musicals that has brought in a different audience. We started with ‘Ang Huling El Bimbo.’“From ‘Annie,’ ‘Cinderella,’ our particular market has grown so much and we can really tell that from the audience that we see. That is really the vision of Dr. Tan to champion the Filipino talent.“So we, along with Michael, we always make sure that we put the best people, our wonderful artistic team and the best production that we possibly can for every show that we take on – the best suitable cast, the best creatives that will really champion the Filipino talent. We are very proud of that.”The decision to bring back “Shrek The Musical” to the Philippines was agreed by FHTC.Based on DreamWorks Animation motion picture and the classic book by William Steig, it features book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori, first brought to Broadway in 2008.Philippine audiences first got the experience of seeing “Shrek” onstage in 2014. Today, after over a decade, Shrek and his friends are seeing a new adventure at the &quot;humongous&quot; NPAT.“That’s very challenging and exciting,” said director Dexter Santos. “We’re going to see the character that we learned to love, the songs, the costumes (to be executed by Eric Pineda). We have an exciting cast, the sets, the blocking, the design especially for the dragon.”The cast and creative team of “Shrek The Musical” is led by Jamie Wilson as Shrek, Krystal Kane as Fiona, Topper Fabregas as Donkey, Alfredo Reyes as Lord Farquaad and Julia Serad as Dragon.“We really want to be really versatile,” said Lauchengco-Yulo. “We want to bring to different markets what we really think the audiences will want. We haven’t done a children’s musical in a while. Our last one was ‘Chitty, Chitty Bang Bang.’ That was followed by a lot of adult material. “Ushering Halloween and Christmas, which are really geared for children, we are bringing ‘Shrek The Musical’ that is good for families. ‘Shrek’ was the obvious choice in trying to bring back that market. We really want to broaden our market and get everybody into the theater.”
