MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. announced Monday that he has approved an additional cash grant specifically targeted to ensure the nutrition of children aged zero to 2 years old from the "poorest families."

During his third State of the Nation Address (SONA), Marcos said that he has ordered the inclusion of additional cash aid to Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries who are pregnant or have children.

"To ensure the nutrition of children zero to [2] years old from the poorest families, we have proposed for the 2025 budget a new grant under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) for this purpose," Marcos said.

"Sa pamamagitan nito ang isang buntis o isang ina na benepisyaryo ng 4Ps ay mabibigyan ng karagdagang tulong-pinanysal na laan para sa kanya at kanyang anak," the President added.

Marcos emphasized the importance of nutrition during the first 1,000 days of a child's life.

"Ang tulong na ito ay para matiyak na siya at ang sanggol na nasa kanyang sinapupunan o batang anak ay maasikaso ng doktor, mababakunahan at mabibigyan ng sapat na nutrisyon," Marcos said.

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) is set to submit the 2025 National Expenditure Program (NEP) to Congress on July 29.

Meanwhile, Marcos also said that the country will do its best to beef up its vaccination drive among children.

"Tuloy-tuloy ang ating paghahabol sa pagbakuna sa mga sanggol at mga bata lalo na sa Region 6 at BARMM," he said.

Unicef has already expressed concern after it its "alarming" report that found millions of children worldwide were left un-or undervaccinated due to the pandemic.
