Every year, the 50 Top Pizza Asia-Pacific 2025 awards spotlights the crème de la crème of pizzas. This year, the Philippines claimed four coveted spots on the list. But beyond the accolades and competition, the awards night took an emotional turn with a surprise tribute to the late Margarita Forés who passed away just last February. A visionary who was named Asia’s Best Female Chef in 2016, Fores’ influence was felt in every corner of the room, making the ceremony not just a recognition of great pizza, but a poignant moment of pride for Filipino gastronomy.

Filipino pride 

Four Philippine pizzerias made the list with Crosta at number five—dropping from its second place ranking in 2024. The 50 Top Pizza website describes it as “a truly unique little pizzeria. With few seats, pizza and high-quality products, and a selection of wines available by the glass. Crosta is a meeting of three very different sensibilities that creates a one-of-a-kind place.”

Praised for its handmade pizzas that blends traditional Neapolitan and contemporary styles is a mano, which sits at number seven, five slots higher than its number 12 ranking last year. It is now tied with Dante’s Pizzeria by Enis Baçova from Auckland, New Zealand.

At number 42 is Wildflour Italian, where the pizzas are noted for thick, fluffy crusts with “toppings inspired by Neapolitan pizza, as well as fillings and combinations that have a more fusion gourmet personality that also pay homage to local gastronomic

A newcomer from the Philippines comes in at number 48: Cebu-based Minante Pizzeria

Highlights of the awards

At number one is The Pizza Bar on 38th. It is the smallest pizzeria in the world, with just eight seats, and is led by Daniele Cason, executive chef of the Mandarin Oriental in Tokyo. Second place goes to RistoPizza by Napoli sta ca by Giuseppe Errichiello, in the Azabudai Hills Store, Tokyo. Closing the podium is Fiata by Salvatore Fiata in Hong Kong.

The awards ceremony was held at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Tokyo.
