Creating limitless opportunities for Filipinas, Pinay Girl Boss (PGB) ended Women’s Month with a triumphant exhibition of 28 incredible women through their “Icons of Impact” at the Eastwood Mall in Quezon City. “We wanted an event that felt like a hug. A safe space where women could show up as they are–no pressure, no pretensions,” said the Founder and CEO of Pinay Girl Boss and Lawyer, Atty. Tina de Guzman.

Pinay Girl Boss 'Icons of Impact'

Pinay Girl Boss was once a simple idea of “giving women a safe space to breathe and to grow.” It plans to augment women’s strength, have the capacity for further growth, and nurture emotional stability through a variety of free workshops, webinars, and learning sessions.

Now, it has become a compassionate community where women are celebrated for being them, not trying to fit the standards labeled by society, boxing in stereotypes, and limiting themselves from the patriarchal framework. But, instead, breaking boundaries by culminating the positive energy around them, or converting any prejudice into strength on their path to success.

In a world where occupations are dominated by men, Pinay Girl Boss positioned itself as a community open to all possibilities. Atty. Tina shared how their rising community was seen and had a warm welcome within the community, saying, “This is a world where it’s mostly male-dominated, but it’s worth thriving. It’s [actually] very visible now, during Women's Month, that we’re a stronger community and it’s mostly because of women who are trailblazers who lift each other up. And that’s why we feature 28 advocates. That’s the reason why we came up with the list, because these women empower other women. So with the amplified voices, we’re able to help more.”

What Makes One a Pinay Girl Boss?

When becoming a “Pinay Girl Boss,” does it mean we need to be a highly accomplished woman, always prim and proper? Or can we also be carefree, learning from our own mistakes, and still embody the essence of it?

Pinay Girl Boss Director and Doctor of Medicine, Dr. Candy Drilon-Dalman enlightened the contemplative queries. She gave insightful words on becoming our own leader of our life, supervising it by being gentle with ourselves, appreciating small wins, and inserting joyfulness in everything that we do.

“When it comes to Pinay Girl Boss, it’s really about being a boss of your own life. So it can have different definitions for different types of people. So, just be more comfortable in that field–not necessarily being on the top of the chain, it’s really just knowing yourself, having all of the tools you can to excel in that field, then just going on your (own) journey. Because at the end of the day, that’s [really] all about you – being happy, being empowered, and being seen.”

Additionally, Dr. Candy explains one limiting belief she would shatter as it prevents women from accumulating endless possibilities, “I think one of the limiting beliefs is that we have to be so feminine, or have like super feminine energy, or at the same time being very young or masculine to dominate this world. But as a woman, just being yourself, you can be limitless.”

While these common barriers for women persist, Atty. Tina emphasized the need for consistent action to gradually alter them, as such progress does not happen miraculously. That’s why Pinay Girl Boss exists—to strive for equal treatment for women and to break down the notions that hinder them.

“We can't do it overnight, but I am sure with every event that we do, with every educational post that we post, we are shattering limiting beliefs. Like, you can [actually] take place in the world, you can start something new, you can call on other women to support you. There are no limits, you can shatter glass ceilings, and you can excel in whatever thing or project that you want to start.”

Pinay Girl Boss’ Role in the Modern Filipina’s Life

A woman’s power in her life is her mind. What defines a brave and modern Filipina is her ability to stand tall before anyone, be unafraid of judgment, love her flaws, and transform them into strengths that cannot be used as tools for hatred.

On the step of becoming a modern Filipina, Pinay Girl Boss reminds us that they will always have our backs, as their principle extends up to encouraging every woman to be their loving self, enriching our welfare with substantial discussions through free workshops and skill enhancement.

“The role Pinay Girl Boss plays in modern Filipina’s life is empowerment. So that can be many things, including education. So we have podcasts, we have free workshops and webinars. We go to offices, [we go to] government agencies, and we teach various things—it can be a skill, it can be photography, or how to use social media responsibly. So it’s women’s empowerment in terms of understanding how to take care of your mental health and physical health. So it’s a wide array of topics.” Atty. Tina said.

Pinay Girl Boss is both a platform and a community anchored to foster mindfulness within Filipinas across the country. In the near future, its amazing founders plan to expand further through roadshows in different parts of the country, aspiring to generate and open new doors to women of grace and passion.
