MANILA -- ABS-CBN and its senior political reporter RG Cruz were recognized for their contributions to journalism and media advocacy at the Icons of Change Awards 2025, held on April 27 at the Southville International School and Colleges in Las Piñas.

The annual event recognizes individuals and organizations that exemplify exceptional leadership, innovation, and dedication to positive change across diverse sectors.

ABS-CBN was awarded the prestigious “Champion in Media, Community Connection, and Global Connection” title for its commitment to delivering truthful and impactful news while fostering meaningful engagement with communities across the country.

Meanwhile, Cruz received the “Excellence in Political Correspondence” award for his outstanding coverage of political affairs, providing Filipinos with reliable and insightful reporting.

In his acceptance speech, he emphasized the vital role of journalism in promoting truth and accountability.

“Times may change, but we always remain in the service of the Filipino—wherever, whenever, however. They say, ‘The only constant thing in this world is change,’ but not all change is for the best; it can also be for the worst. That is why our advocacy for truth and accountability must not only continue—it is imperative. Only a self-aware world that keeps itself truthful and accountable will be able to develop sustainably. Otherwise, it will become a house of cards that collapses and is lost," Cruz said.

“We must do all our share to keep things real for everyone, because only truth and accountability start meaningful change,” Cruz added.

This year’s program also featured the Metro Manila SDG Action Summit 2025, celebrating the United Nations Year of Peace and Trust. The summit highlighted the UN’s 2025 proclamations—the International Year of Cooperatives and the International Year of Peace and Trust—emphasizing collaboration, community-driven initiatives, and collective efforts in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
